Here is a link that I clicked on and followed and am glad I did -- I have many friends who have an interest in breast cancer and I'm going to email them this link and ask them to come and listen when they have time as well to listen to this recorded call.

We appreciate this information being provided to Lumigrate by Tom Kociemba - Please contact him at the information, below, with questions or if you want to learn more about this product Lumigrate is 'aligned with' in philosophy related to fruits and vegetables and nutrition, and Juice Plus is a very high-visibility company with many distributors out at many events so I wanted to have them included at Lumigrate for that reason also.

Re: Whole Food Nutrition via Juice Plus+ re: Breast Cancer

It is not often that we get a chance to listen to a medical doctor of the renown who believes in treating her patients as a complete and whole person. What I love about the message delivered in this call is that it is so compelling for all aspects as I try to develop a healthy life. I just wish that I could find a doctor like this for myself. I am so pleased that someone like her took the time to put this 15 minute recording together.

The forums at Lumigrate are a social media format, similar to facebook. That would be like contacting facebook and saying "take everything I ever commented on or posted off". Many conversations and exchanges of other providers are woven in 'threads' and that would be disrespectful to the other forum participants who gave their time and energy to participate in the 'social' media of Lumigrate's forums. However, I have changed the UserName to be Juice Plus 007, removed the photo, and am posting this in the signature and removing the contact information that is set up in the signature in order to make it clear this contributor no longer wants to be 'connected' with the posts. Additionally, as time permits, I will work to replace the content with similar but that will entail selecting another person distributing for Juice Plus. I wanted JP represented on Lumigrate because it is a well-known company based on the concept of supplementing fruits and vegetables. Also because JP reaches many people due to it's vast number of distributors; there are 10 in Grand Junction, population 50k or so. In addition to removing the information in the signature for contact, I have changed the username and email address associated with it to route to me if anyone were to send a "private message" to JP007. My first step will be to edit out any internal contact information/links to the requestor. I guess you call this an "imposter"? Grins! I hope this is a clear statement for the users of Lumigrate to view related YOUR forum area and how I manage it. After all, it is YOUR health education (and mine) I'm advocating for but Lumigrate, at the end of the day, is my website. I care a great deal about the users of Lumigrate feeling they are being treated well and providing a forum area which is a FUN place to come get valid, progressive information in a streamlined way when searching for health information our audience of consumers is seeking.

I'm Hoping Lumigrate will Help YOU, Tom!

You might take a peek at the Mardy's List portion of Lumigrate.com .... It only has a list so far of the providers in the Grand Junction area, but it serves as a model of how Lumigrate will be able to, in the future, create a listing service of medical providers that fit the model of 'integrative care'.  I'm not forseeing that developing a whole lot until maybe mid 2011, but I have started working on resources for the Front Range / Denver area, as I have a whole lot of contacts over there.

Many of the providers on Lumigrate see patients 'remotely', FYI.  Thanks for setting up this information for us, Tom... glad you're with the Grate Group! ~~ Mardy

Breast Cancer and Omega 3 vs 6 Fatty Acids; Supplementing OILS!

Here is another way to prevent breast cancer or any other chronic disease. The polyphenols in Juice PLUS combined with a pharmaceutical grade Omega III are very important in achieving disease prevention.

Are you taking enough fish oil?

Breast cancer accounts for more than 25 percent of all female cancers. Breast cancer is also strongly linked to obesity. This means as our obesity crisis accelerates, we can expect breast cancer rates to follow. The reason that breast cancer and obesity are linked is due to cellular inflammation caused by the diet. Simply stated, this means a diet rich in refined carbohydrates, low in fruits and vegetables, and high in vegetable oils rich in omega-6 fatty acids is a sure-fire prescription for increasing the likelihood of developing both obesity and ultimately breast cancer.

The biochemistry is complex, as Dr. Barry Sears explains in the book, Toxic Fat, but simply stated, omega-6 fatty acids make you fat and increases the likelihood of breast cancer, whereas omega-3 fatty acids make you thin and decrease the likelihood of breast cancer.

Dr. Sears has always recommended an anti-inflammatory diet (like The Zone diet), consisting primarily of low-glycemic carbohydrates (vegetables and fruits) balanced at every meal with adequate protein and dramatically limiting your intake of vegetable oils that are rich in omega-6 fatty acids.

Unfortunately, it is easier to change your religion than to change your diet. So if that is too hard to implement, then try this simpler change. Just take a supplement of purified fish oil every day. This dietary change only takes 15 seconds a day. Of course, the question is: how much?

A research article in the May 2010 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition begins to answer that question. Subjects at high risk of developing breast cancer were given various doses of omega-3 fatty acids ranging from 1 gram to 7 grams per day for six months. Although the blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids stabilized after 30 days, the amount of the omega-3 fatty acids in the breast tissue continued to increase in a dose-dependent manner for the next six months. This means the highest omega-3 fatty acid dose has the greatest impact in changing the fatty acid composition in the breast.

Earlier research indicated that the importance of the omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids ratio in the breast tissue is pretty clear from animal studies: The higher the omega-3 content of the breast tissue, the lower the risk of developing breast cancer. From this new study, it appears that 5-7 grams per day of purified omega-3 fatty acids are required to really change the levels of the fatty acid composition in the breast tissue of high-risk women. Perhaps not too surprisingly these results are very close to Dr. Sears’ recommendations for omega-3 fatty acids that he made in 2002 in his book The OmegaRx Zone.

It should also be pointed out that the researchers in this study did not have a placebo group using omega-6 fatty acids because of the risk of increasing the likelihood of turning on inflammatory genes that might lead to the development of breast cancer in these high-risk subjects. If these researchers were afraid of omega-6 fatty acids found in common vegetable oils, then think about what that means to you. Simply replace your vegetable oils with extra-virgin olive oil that is low in omega-6 fatty acids or other oils that are recommended for cooking/temperatures, and take a supplemental oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

That’s a dietary change everyone can easily make.
