http://health.msn.com/medications/articlepage.aspx?cp-docume...

This is an article from Prevention Magazine. Here is the main paragraph:

"But today, a tsunami of scientific data has resulted in a reversal in thinking among many experts in the health and nutrition community, including Miriam Nelson, PhD, director of the John Hancock Research Center on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity at Tufts University. "The multivitamin as insurance policy is an old wives' tale, and we need to debunk it," she says".

OR

"For instance, a British review of eight studies found no evidence that multis reduced infections in older adults. Another study found that the vitamins didn't improve fatigue among breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. And inner-city schoolchildren who took a multi did not perform any better on tests or have fewer sick days than students who didn't take one".

Take in the whole article as it will save you time and money.

Whole food nutrition and supplementation like Juice PLUS  is scientifically proven to deliver the goods.

The forums at Lumigrate are a social media format, similar to facebook. That would be like contacting facebook and saying "take everything I ever commented on or posted off". Many conversations and exchanges of other providers are woven in 'threads' and that would be disrespectful to the other forum participants who gave their time and energy to participate in the 'social' media of Lumigrate's forums. However, I have changed the UserName to be Juice Plus 007, removed the photo, and am posting this in the signature and removing the contact information that is set up in the signature in order to make it clear this contributor no longer wants to be 'connected' with the posts. Additionally, as time permits, I will work to replace the content with similar but that will entail selecting another person distributing for Juice Plus. I wanted JP represented on Lumigrate because it is a well-known company based on the concept of supplementing fruits and vegetables. Also because JP reaches many people due to it's vast number of distributors; there are 10 in Grand Junction, population 50k or so. In addition to removing the information in the signature for contact, I have changed the username and email address associated with it to route to me if anyone were to send a "private message" to JP007. My first step will be to edit out any internal contact information/links to the requestor. I guess you call this an "imposter"? Grins! I hope this is a clear statement for the users of Lumigrate to view related YOUR forum area and how I manage it. After all, it is YOUR health education (and mine) I'm advocating for but Lumigrate, at the end of the day, is my website. I care a great deal about the users of Lumigrate feeling they are being treated well and providing a forum area which is a FUN place to come get valid, progressive information in a streamlined way when searching for health information our audience of consumers is seeking.

I'll have to ask around about this; were top quality ones used?

I'm glad you posted this, Tom, if it's out there on MSN and around in the mainstream media then it'll be something people have seen.  Generally speaking, much of what ends up in the mainstream related to health is there to sell the story.

Example: The misfortune of having the WHO study about hormone replacement get blown up for story's sake, and years later now we have, in my opinion, more people with health issues that could have been prevented by supplementation of hormones with aging.  Did you know there was just one case of cancer beyond the limit established by the research study where they'd stop the study?  That detail was overlooked, and all these years later people still think 'hormone replacement causes breast cancer'.  But they were using synthetic hormones which have a different molecular structure than the ones our body produces -- which to me is like apples and oranges.

This is why I like to have several people contributing about supplements, as I'm appreciative of those who invest their professional time in the field bringing much to the table.  (Whereas I bring things about everything and try to stay up on a lot of things.)

So, I followed the link, above, and it went to a general landing page in MSN related to health and I didn't see this article.  So I did a search on key words to find it and went to the Prevention website's supplements page, and overall saw articles about the effectiveness of supplementing vitamins and minerals.  Interesting point we can maybe all agree on, was 100% of people in a study about nutrition didn't get the RDA of all things from diet alone.

Here's the link to the Prevention website related to supplements: www.prevention.com/health/health/supplements-conditions/

Again, I'd like to suggest that there are many opinions, many companies and different approaches appeal to different people for a variety of reasons.  To me, from my personal history alone, I've seen a dramatic improvement in my health when I got educated about supplements for what I had going on and then found a source who got me on a high quality form.  In 1997 or so I started buying and taking magnesium, but in 1998 when a physician I was going to had a naturopath in the clinic who sold Metagenics brand, I got tons and tons better mostly from that one change.  So to me, I'm continuing with my supplement regimen but dropping some of what I take and adding in a powder drink to my day which has ten+ servings of organic fruits and vegies and other things that I believe are good to take and are included (streamlining the # of bottles, products, steps) AND concentrating increasingly on foods again.  Deirdre Rawlings, ND, PhD (Holistic Nutrition) is quite involved with content on Lumigrate related to nutrition and has a wonderful website which has a ton of free information as well as her programs which have some cost to them.  Everything she says is so consistent with the ND you see in video an on a podcast accessible through the Top Picks about Fibromyalgia Forum, Christopher Lepisto.  And what they say really resonates for me.

As for Juice Plus, I appreciate the aspect about foods being grown under high standards and processed the same, US-made, organic, vine ripening, etc. and it made me think about how to change up what I was doing with nutrition and supplementation.  I can see where it would be the top pick for many people and think it's a good company and a good product that is helpful to people's health if they take it, and they reach a LOT of people so therefore it's wonderful to have JP included on Lumigrate.com.  I just don't buy into some of the presented information. And that's what Lumigrate 'is about' -- showing people the process, making it interesting, sorthing through things for them -- not to tell them the answers but to show the process and give suggestions and options and then let them go figure it out for themselves in terms of their 'next step'.

So I welcome a discussion here ....

~~ Mardy

Thanks for new Link Tom, I Read it and think...

... that they weren't using the kind of supplents that Lumigrate 'is about'.  I think Robin Thomas does a nice job, and others in Forums as well as Scott Rollins excellent hour-plus video on Supplements and Disease Prevention about talking about how few really are high quality and 'top shelf' so to speak.

So grateful to you for bringing this to our attention as Prevention magazine, in my opinion, by not thinking this one through real well, is doing a huge disservice to people and naturally, that's the kind of thing we want to have discussed and brought to people's attentions here!  ~~ Mardy
