"Boundaries"- helpful or hurtful?

Personal boundaries are those invisible limits that you set around your life to allow good things in and keep you out of harmful situations. I consider boundaries as landmarks that mark my comfort zone in many situations. For many years I was a "yes person". I would agree to take on any project and fix any situation for others with no regard for how that affected my energy levels. Then I moved to the other extreme and became a "no person" to any request.  read more »

Communication- Dancing with Change

When I talk to my parents and inquire about how they are doing in general or in any specific area: the answer is always "We are fine, just fine." What I observe when I am with them is the difference of how they move or operate now compared to previous years. I see a big difference. Of Cats and Dogs and Hikes on My First Father(less) Day -

Father's Day is today, the first one since my father passed nine and a half months ago.  He died on Labor Day, the ultimate irony since he was the hardest worker.  He worked at everything, even at having fun. Hikes or walks on the flatlands were monitored for how many miles per hour, ski runs were evaluated on the way back up on the lift, people were evaluated after parting from spending time together.  read more »

It is an honor to say that I know Lynn Hellerstein, OD, author of See it. Say it. Do It!  She not only further boosted my performance with brain / vision therapy and special eyeglasses, she has helped many of my clients and patients in the past 15 years as well.  She had written portions of books I had used in OT school in the 1990s, it turned out -- so it was a very good thing to have found my way to her when I was in Denver as a new OT in 1997.  read more »
