"Resolutioners", "Goalees", The Year SO FAR?! SuperBowl Me!
As the "American" football season wraps up with the Superbowl this weekend (which is historically a day people gather 'round and watch the NEW BIG and EXPENSIVE commercials and snack in what maybe we could call the 'foodball season grand finale' before spring, I thought I'd run with the ball related to something my favorite 'foodie', Pablo Blanco mentioned last night when we got together for chili and talk about recipes and the "Lumigrate test kitchen". I actually thought I was going to help with a 'glueup' with his latest woodworking project, as I used to do woodworking in a 'previous life', but the piece wasn't quite ready yet. Luckily the crock pot of chili WAS. So as we sat out on the patio under the heater listening to the Grateful Dead, we caught up on talk as we'd not seen each other for a while due to busyness mostly. Last year he got me back into skiing, but neither of us have been skiing this year. He'd done some short hikes but I haven't been hiking since messing up my tonails on a wonderful hike in October. Then he said he's looking foward to getting back to the health club "after the 'resolutioners' drop off."
I was grateful that the dinner he made didn't have wheat in it, as I'm working on getting more compliant with IgG food allergies, inspired by the book by Angela Dunston Barakat that I had taken to show him. (See the Forum areas related to food allergies, fibromyalgia for her 'showing' there.) I tried to explain what Dr. Rollins had said to me toward the end of 2009 about beans and the immune system of most people, and realized I just really don't understand well enough what he had verbalized to me one evening, as I didn't take notes. (So I'm going to invite Dr. Rollins to write something up for us in the Forum area.) He talked about changes he's contemplating for this year now that the new year is settling in -- things that make sense and always have and it surprised me that he NOW is talking about these, and I think it surprised him when I asked him 'why', but I'm an OT and that's just part of figuring out what makes people 'tick', and are key to the success of making change. "Because I don't like doctors and I don't want to ever have (majory health problems)."
I remember having observed the 'resolutioner' phenomenon years ago when I worked out at health clubs before I quit when I returned to college to become an occupational therapist. My reason for being at the health club was that I enjoyed exercising, and I was very grateful for that. And as I went into a profession that operates off of documenting long-term and short-term goals with each patient, I found that it really helped patients if they could be guided to finding out what their motivators were. I'm pleased to say that through an osteopath that comes to Grand Junction once a month, a PT who specializes in life coaching for health care had contacted me last week and today she is actually reviewing Lumigrate -- back from a professional conference in sunny Florida. So look into the Forum areas SOON to see her arrival -- her name is Gwen Pettit, and I'm going to email her a link to this blog and hope that she's pleased to see I at least have her introduction made!
Yesterday, I also spoke with Wm. Marcus Spurlock, MD whose company name is Health Rejuvenation Specialists, who welcomed my invitation to have him come into Lumigrate's Forum area to contribute to the Forum area related to fibromyalgia initially, as that has been one of the main focuses of his work. He has a strong background in environmental issues, anti-aging (such as bioidentical hormones), as well as fibromyalgia. And then it was time to head off to 'help' Pablo Blanco -- which in that case was only helping eat some delightfully good chili and clean up the kitchen. And have a nice conversation about how we continue to get older and hopefully healthier despire ourselves!
He was really excited to hear about Deirdre Rawlings, ND, PhD who is going to be contributing very soon (she's messaged) about nutrition and hopefully using Pablo Blanco's recipes (from the SOUTH) as a training tool for us to learn from. He actually is thinking that it might be okay if we record a bit of HIS cooking -- Adam Cochran who popped in the other day on Lumigrate to introduce himself as one of the local technology consultants for Lumigrate just happent to be a BBQ judge! Now THAT is going to be an interesting party if we get THAT together ever! Those two have similar political feelings that are not exactly like mine but the good thing is we all agree that disagreement is fine. And THAT is another thing that happened over the weekend .. the self titled 'GRATE GROUP' on facebook (become a 'Fan' of Lumigrate's many Fan Pages) confirmed what I thought -- that people using Lumigrate appreciate that different opinions are brought here and that we're respectful of that. We're all simply wanting information and to grow in our knowledge and health.
