I posted this on my facebook recently and thought I'd share it with you here as well, so more people can see it here on Lumigrate in the future, in the hopes they find it and it helps them with this critical issue:

Many patients suffer from low thyroid hormone. They especially have issues with elevated Reverse T3 which blockades the receptor site preventing the Free T3 from doing its work. Most medical providers do not check for Reverse T3.  Symptoms include

  • fatigue
  • low body temperature
  • hair loss
  • weight gain
  • constipation
  • ridged nails
  • dry heels
  • low blood pressure and pulse.

Responses from facebook friends (made anonymous here, but thanks to them for responding):
Most doctors don't have your level of expertise.

William Fibromyalgia Spurlock You don't have to have every symptom to have the disorder!

I take levothyroxin for my thyroid. Is the T3 checked when the regular blood thyroid (TSH) level is checked? Or do I need to have my doc do a specific test for it?

William Fibromyalgia Spurlock You need to have both your Free T3 checked and your Reverse T3. Knowledgeable doctors will know how to adjust your medication. I bet you that your levothyroxin is not really working in you.

I know it defiently helped, but I really don't think it's doing the job. It worries my mom bc family members on both sides have had to have thyroids removed.
Can off levels affect feeling in extremities? My legs and arms fall asleep easily..., I have tingles and also this weird heavy feeling. My legs are very weak also...the levothyroxin helped some with that.
Thanks again for the great info!!

William Fibromyalgia Spurlock You probably need a pure T3 product. The levothyroxin is T4. You may also consider using Armour Thyroid as it has T3 in it also.

Ok. I'm assuming that would need a prescription?
Thank you so much for all the great info you have given me. I know I bombarded you with lots of questions, pretty sure I will have more. Lol. Thanks again

William Fibromyalgia Spurlock Yes, these medications require a prescription.

PRINT this and get it to people who need it! (send links too)

MARDY's NOTE:  Hitting the PRINT button on this page and then taking this with you to an appointment with a provider, faxing it, mailing it and asking 'can you help me with this' is a way for YOU to get the help you need and be a liaison health educator related to thyroid treatment.  We're very fortunate that Dr Spurlock wants to spend so much time educating US, and Lumigrate's foundational concept is that YOU are the most important person on your health care team and ARE a teacher to providers just as they are to you.

You can also find more information about thyroid/hypothyroidism and it's treatment and testing in the hormones/thyroid forum.  ITC Pharmacy, who we learned about from Dr Spurlock, became a registered provider at Lumigrate in order to provide our customers/users/followers the guidance they offer to their patients/customers. (They work with patients in all 50 states and ship to 49 of the 50 states).  The link is www.lumigrate.com/forums/health-issuesdis-eases/chronic-disease-management-chronic-wellness/hormones/thyroid-dysfuncti
