More Morphing
It's been six month since I added a new blog topic. Change was in the air when I last wrote here. I've made a big decision about this little website of mine, 15 years after making the BIG decision to create it. I'll call it a metamorphosis. Or, is it a metal morphosis? Punny, huh?
Sometimes change is gradual, as if you're walking along path with gradual curves. Other times the curves are more pronounced. And then there are the times you literally plant a foot and pivot. Pivotal moments they are notoriously called.
While I stopped working as a registered occupational therapist (OTR) in 2008 and created the entity we all here know as "Lumigrate", my intentions were to use my skills and experience in a direct payment model to assist consumers in navigating the terrain they encountered with their health and wellness. And education was at the core of that endeavor.
I'd create Lumigrate in 2008 within a brand new clinic, which didn't "stick to the plan". We all moved on, for various reasons. I'd also be under the impression an agreement within my family of origin to do with assets had been honored, and I'd have the financial means to do what was needed after getting Lumigrate "out there". Another plan others didn't stick to. I'd persist, and compensate. Dr. Paula King would credit me with my resilience in the changes and adversities after the first year of things not going as planned.
When I thought about making the decision in late 2007 that lead to creating Lumigrate, I'd not really wanted a website. I'd wanted to write about fun stuff, but it was a clear insight of mine that I "needed to do" the website, and from that it would lead to what I ultimately wanted to do. I guess maybe I've paid my dues in these 15 years. Let me provide a little educational tidbit to help with background:
"Occupation" is what occupies time ("vocation" is how you earn to support yourself and those you are responsible for), and the last year of my insurance-based, mainstream career I had found my niche within the outpatient clinic setting when consumers with complex health issues benefitted from our sessions focusing on their occupation of staying organized and making their next steps to providers that could help them. I was in my late 40's, and had realized my strength, balance, and reaction time for working with my "neurological specialty" was not adequate.
I still provide that type of help, 15 years later, but people don't think of that as something to pay for assistance with in enough numbers to be my sole vocation. The Internet has provided the resources for novices to think they're experts in reSearch. People often do not know what they have yet to learn. I credit Alice, a talented writer I invited to provide forum content on Lumigrate, who died in 2016 after her final plea to her following on Facebook: Each one, reach one. Lumigrate, with the help of many, has reached many with health-related information.
Now it's time for Lumigrate to move on. Our motto has been "Lighting the path to health and well-being", which is a bit ironic, since lighting was a big part of the videotaping of speakers in the products initially carried for purchase and it's a big part of what I've been doing to create these photographs for use here in the blog where I'm announcing the transition --- metamorphosis ---- pivot point --- what have you --- to jewelry!
I'd be struggling with the decision -- my gut telling me to use Lumigrate, my brain questioning it -- when I found the lovely pewter measuring spoon set and looked through my jewelers loupe to see: "Metal Morphosis". Perfect! I thought!
I trust you -- YOU! -- the Lumigrate Yousers -- will understand.
Here's the link to the forums where I'm listing all the jewelry, separated into the usual groupings www.lumigrate.com/forums/jewelry . You'll find topics on everything you'll "need" to know to make a purchase, and additional education about jewelry and the general jewelry realm. (I'm planning to get some interviews with jewlers or others in the trade.)
I'm not forseeing this becoming anything bigger than something that can be handled the old fashioned way. I provide my phone number so people can text or call, and I get the information I need to package and send the item you want after we take care of payment using the more respected, common online payment methods.
I look forward to working with you, should you wish to do so.
Grate~Fully, Mardy
Live and Learn. Learn and Live Better! is my motto. I'm Mardy Ross, and I founded Lumigrate in 2008 after a career as an occupational therapist with a background in health education and environmental research program administration. Today I function as the desk clerk for short questions people have, as well as 'concierge' services offered for those who want a thorough exploration of their health history and direction to resources likely to progress their health according to their goals. Contact Us comes to me, so please do if you have questions or comments. Lumigrate is "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being" for increasing numbers of people. Follow us on social networking sites such as: Twitter: http://twitter.com/lumigrate and Facebook. (There is my personal page and several Lumigrate pages. For those interested in "groovy" local education and networking for those uniquely talented LumiGRATE experts located in my own back yard, "LumiGRATE Groove of the Grand Valley" is a Facebook page to join. (Many who have joined are beyond our area but like to see the Groovy information! We not only have FUN, we are learning about other providers we can be referring patients to and 'wearing a groove' to each other's doors -- or websites/home offices!) By covering some of the things we do, including case examples, it reinforces the concepts at Lumigrate.com as well as making YOU feel that you're part of a community. Which you ARE at Lumigrate!
