I learned a lot in Dr. Rollins' seminar we taped at Lumigrate's studio on Monday, and I know it will be a very helpful seminar not only for patients, but for medical providers.  Dr. Rollins' 15 years of experience as a primary care doctor combined (in my opinion) with rotating a week on and off with his partner there, have allowed him to really investigate current trends in testing and treatment.  He has a gift for talking about things in the body with analogies we can understand.  There are so many things we can be doing with supplements and exercise (even in a very moderate way), as well as utilizing the medications which are very popular now.

Ironically, we were taping three years to the day when one of my family members died suddenly from cardiovascular issues (as did my mother), so this topic is so very appropriate to be offering on Lumigrate.  I'm looking forward to your input here -- we intend the forum areas to be used as a positive place to exchange information.  The providers can check in as well.   So I'll check back too!  Mardy

NOTE: We were unable to continue funding producing more seminars for production, and found that we could create content much faster using the Forums and written information with links to things outside of Lumigrate.com. So look for the information in this forum and the other, it continues to acumulate.

Notes that were the most noteworthy that I can pass on: The VAP cholesterol test (Vertical Aligned Profile), which can be found online, was a very intriguing and new, somewhat 'outside the box' test that I could see becoming an 'inside the box' service offered in the not too-distant-future. It was impressed upon me overall how testing for things such as fibrinogen, homocysteine, testosterone (wich declines withe age in men AND women, and is very good/protective for blood vessels, promotes muscle growth, promotes lipid metabolism, etc), and iron (as hemochromatosis, which is the or among the most common genetic disorders and is very bad for organs, which can be treated to some degree if the person is aware).

Treatments outside the conventional box sometimes overlap with inside the box treatments: Here's the list of treatments discussed: weight loss, high fiber diet, exercise, increased mono-unsaturates, increased unprocessed foods with low glycemic index, omega-3 fatty acids, other supplements and nutritional interventions. For raising HDL, weight loss is top of the list, exercise has been over-rated for this purpose, alcohol and tobacco and things such as niacin. Nturally, much is known about the medications and many are overly relied upon but they are sometimes warranted as the best option, to have it included in treatment. Finding a comprehensive source of information which fits with your paradigm and a provider or providers to support YOU, is of paramount importance.

Also worth noting, if anyone's been on statins and are not aware of the effect of statins on CoQ10 levels in the body, that's very important to become aware of. That's just a very short overview to give you an idea of the types of information we were hoping to provide at Lumigrate in 2009 but that's unfortunately not the way things worked out on this provider and the videos overall, but again, we hope you find the information we do have of value and that it can get you sent on your way having benefitted from your time and energy here.  ~ Mardy

I'm Mardy Ross, and I founded Lumigrate in 2008 after a career as an occupational therapist with a background in health education and environmental research program administration. Today I function as the desk clerk for short questions people have, as well as 'concierge' services offered for those who want a thorough exploration of their health history and direction to resources likely to progress their health according to their goals. Contact Us comes to me, so please do if you have questions or comments. Lumigrate is "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being" for increasing numbers of people. Follow us on social networking sites such as: Twitter: http://twitter.com/lumigrate and Facebook. (There is my personal page and several Lumigrate pages. For those interested in "groovy" local education and networking for those uniquely talented LumiGRATE experts located in my own back yard, "LumiGRATE Groove of the Grand Valley" is a Facebook page to join. (Many who have joined are beyond our area but like to see the Groovy information! We not only have FUN, we are learning about other providers we can be referring patients to and 'wearing a groove' to each other's doors -- or websites/home offices!) By covering some of the things we do, including case examples, it reinforces the concepts at Lumigrate.com as well as making YOU feel that you're part of a community. Which you ARE at Lumigrate!
