There was much enthusiasm at the start of 2013, more than I'd seen since the first New Year Lumigrate was in existence (which was 2010), related to people wanting to change their consumption/diet. Back when Lumigrate hit the Internet it was very unknown by most people I encountered online, which was mostly on Facebook at that time, that foods were "the" or "a primary" underlying CAUSE of most medical conditions. The medical industry had really routed our education, and that of our allopathic, insurance-based providers, to believe otherwise.

So many people 'going gluten-free' in recent years was making 'everyone' become more aware. Sometimes people who are eating gluten free don't really know that much about why or other details, such as that many of the GF grains are not 'non GMO', or that they have a faster response in the body for raising blood sugar, which contributes to many problems. So it is a process for people to become more educated, but the 'awareness' levels are way up!

So I created a topic in the gut/gastrointestinal forum that weaves TWO BOOKS that I'm just 'wild about' for 2013 and wanted to set the link to that up here. www.lumigrate.com/forum/fix-your-broken-brain-healing-your-body-first-gut-key-ultra-mind-solution-mark-hyman-md

The topic started out about The UltraMind Solution, which I now suggest as the #1 book I recommend to EVERYONE. It's all about 'functional medicine', which is one of the core concepts at Lumigrate.com. Dr Hyman, the author, stated that functional medicine would replace allopathic medicine within 20 years, so since the book came out a little while back, we're looking at that occurring by 2030 if he's seeing things correctly. I think it could happen sooner. Either way, I'm always happy to see people saying 'this is the wave of the future'. So for a lot of reasons, I put this book now at the very top of my recommendations list to virtually everyone.

But the big sensation lately was Wheat Belly, by another doctor who had just gotten to looking at what was causing the problems he saw in his practice. I found that, despite having learned in 1995 about wheat causing a lot of problems for people, and having studied much about that along the way since, I learned a TON from Wheat Belly. I heard about it initially from someone who I'd helped advise about their health and blood sugar/anxiety/alcohol use/overuse in the past, who'd heard about it at the health club. (I was happy to hear that!)

Then I heard about it from Dr Spurlock when he saw the author speak at a conference in early December. When I hear the same thing from two diverse directions in a short period of time, I take note of that and it goes to the top of the 'to do' list. I'm SO glad I did! There was information in WheatBelly about what gets through into the brain related to digested modern semi-dwarf wheat gluten that was what it took to revitalize me personally about recommitting to wheat cessation. I'd followed some different advise to rotate it back in and had eased up on that particular food and regret now that I'd ever gone back to eating it in minimal amounts.

So I wove that in as supportive information. With both UltraMind and WheatBelly, I set up links to FREE things on the Internet from them -- videos, websites, etc. (There is also a very low-cost subscription for advise via Dr Hyman's website I tell people about that connects you to his team of nutritionists.) AND you will see that Lumigrate's experts stop by, the ones who are available as resources for YOU, the medical consumers of the US (and beyond for some of the providers who can work with people outside the US if they connect).

I encourage EVERYONE to take a look at the information, it's set up to also route you for resources related to why it might be difficult for you to make the changes you're wanting to make; again, I set up a FREE resource and plant the seeds for how to find someone to work with if you're in a position to hire a coach or other type of provider. I use my experience as an occupational therapist to set up what I would provide with a person if I were working with them. Again, so many people today are having to DIY (do it yourself), and others have medical insurance and benefit programs and /or can pay out of pocket for assistance and advisors. So I've tried to 'provide for all' and I hope you'll be able to sift through it and find what resonates and applies to YOU!

It was set up for people to follow along every day initially, but it can be used historically keeping that in mind. For instance, on the weekend I said 'so this is when most people go shopping', and 'what about taking a day off'. And for Super Bowl I discuss what occurred for me this year, related to GF and 'awareness' versus 'getting educated' and 'making changes'. So I hope it helps YOU!
