A question for Dr. Rollins
Dr. Rollins,
I'm a 38 year old woman, overweight and diagnosed with fibromyalgia and a few other fun complications. In Jan of 2007, I had a massive blood clot break free in my leg leading to pulmonary emboli (I was not expected to make it through the night, but I'm stubborn). At the time, it was blamed on my weight, age and birth control pills which I had been on since I was 14 due to severe PMS.
I've since been tested and have several clotting disorders, DRVVT Mix is high, Protein C antigen is high and Factor 8 Assay is high. After a year on Coumadin, I have stepped down to full dose aspirin once daily. (And due to severe CVI, I get to wear those really cute compression hose daily!!)
Obviously through all this, I was taken off the birth control pill. However, my doctor feels I'm entering peri-menopause and some of the symptoms are difficult to manage.
Is a bio-identical hormone replacement creme an option for me? I've gotten different answers that I can not have anything estrogen based, and that a creme is appropriate.
I'd appreciate any light you can shed on this!!
Thank you!
Aimee
