"Procedures" as Interventions for Chronic Pain - Invasive and Non
Part of the fun challenge of the evolution of Lumigrate.com is seeing what people contribute and ask about and then figuring out how to structure things in a way that allows us to accomplish our intentions -- make it valid, progressive, fun and streamlined (as people are short on time and energy and quite frankly often tired of looking at the computer but it is SUCH a great tool, eh?). I just noticed that someone had written a question in the fibromyalgia pain medication section that maybe falls into the category of 'procedure' -- then within that realm there perhaps is a distinction between 'invasive' and 'noninvasive' categories. I've copied it over here:
I have had rhyzotomy (thorasic and lumbar region) My spine is /was very sore. This is helping a bit, although my neck hasn,t been done, so still have lots of pain/migraine from that.
Can this lasering of my nerves tell my muscles that "hey, you don't have to be sore anymore!"
Has anyone else had this done with sucess?
Thanks, hope someone answers and that I can find the answer!!
Moira
I know that several other people who are part of the Lumigrate GRATE GROUP are 'out' right now recovering from surgical procedures that we certainly want them to come back here and TALK WITH US ABOUT if and when they would like so we learn from their experiences.
I'm going to contact the physician I met in California at the wonderful kickoff conference for the chronic pain documentary series (link below about Darien's presentation) and ask him to come in here and post something to get us maybe set straight from the very beginning on how to segment this. And Kesta as well (Director, who organized a WONDERFUL conference -- I encourage everyone to read around the blog posts from late July of 2009 as I summarized it in a series of posts.)
I also am going to ask a local PT I've had the great pleasure to meet recently, as she has worked with the local pain management physician who was 'the source' in town about what is called 'micro-current'. I had the pleasure of meeting a really interesting and kind woman at the conference who was a vendor and had a consumer-version of some sort of device that operated on similar principles I believe, so maybe we can get this area of the website 'cooking'.
(And don't forget about the real 'cooking' area in the 'Nutrition' Forum if you're tired of hearing about chronic pain and want to go think about food -- we're going to develop that as something to really learn from as well -- again valid, fun, all that).
I know there is a local "Laser Solutions" that uses laser technology for chronic pain (and many other issues): I will say that my concern overall is that there is an amount of medical knowledge that is necessary for all these things and whether a person is going to a provider that has a medical degree and licenses or doesn't need those to provide the type of service they are 'into', it's always good to investigate and use "your head and your hunch" perhaps in terms of where YOUR resources go: time, energy, money are "resources".
Certainly we're trying to help you facilitate that -- and for starters, here's a provider I am pleased to have met, heard speak, and have 'on the team' of people looking for true solutions for chronic pain with good ethics, validity, progressiveness of thought, and making it fun/interesting and streamlined!

Live and Learn. Learn and Live Better! is my motto. I'm Mardy Ross, and I founded Lumigrate in 2008 after a career as an occupational therapist with a background in health education and environmental research program administration. Today I function as the desk clerk for short questions people have, as well as 'concierge' services offered for those who want a thorough exploration of their health history and direction to resources likely to progress their health according to their goals. Contact Us comes to me, so please do if you have questions or comments. Lumigrate is "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being" for increasing numbers of people. Follow us on social networking sites such as: Twitter: http://twitter.com/lumigrate and Facebook. (There is my personal page and several Lumigrate pages. For those interested in "groovy" local education and networking for those uniquely talented LumiGRATE experts located in my own back yard, "LumiGRATE Groove of the Grand Valley" is a Facebook page to join. (Many who have joined are beyond our area but like to see the Groovy information! We not only have FUN, we are learning about other providers we can be referring patients to and 'wearing a groove' to each other's doors -- or websites/home offices!) By covering some of the things we do, including case examples, it reinforces the concepts at Lumigrate.com as well as making YOU feel that you're part of a community. Which you ARE at Lumigrate!
