Below you'll see things which are directly from the YouCan Toocan website in the order they are there and I brought with the ones I suggest to people frequently the one I most frequently have had to say 'nope, not for you' in order to be sure to cover it -- Lift Chairs are wonderful for people with progressive neurological diseases which do not affect cognition and for people who have done all their exercises and are at a point where they cannot stand up without the assist of motor.  Think about it: If your legs are getting weaker due to a neurologic disease but you could regain that by exercising, what are you going to do on the toilet to get up or out in public if you remove your MOST effective 'exercise equipment', which is your chair you sit in at your house typically!

You'll see there is a Car Bar for car transfers, which appears to be a handy device (pun intended!) that I've actually never seen before in real life so maybe Karen has and we can ask her to comment.  (Karen Korner writer, Karen Richardson is an OTR like I am with that kind of background with SNF and hospital work but also she is a certified driving rehabilitation specialist (CDRS).  Same for Car Caddy, I never have seen them in use but if Youcan Toocan carries them they're a good device, I trust!

My personal favorite, the 'stripper pole for the nursing home' I used to joke, the Transfer Pole.  These I have encouraged many many people to purchase and they come with an extension for tall ceilings and have personally installed them with the help of another person several times.  They're the best!  Expensive though so it might inspire people to come up with their own ideas of how to do things on their own at home if they have the creativity and skills.  I do not recommend anything to anyone without it being a marketed product, however.   That's just the times we live in.  But I do hope these things have helped you with some ideas and then I really encourage you to click around on the Youcan Toocan website for more ideas.  Call them or email them with questions --- their friendly staff as I have said elsewhere on Lumigrate amazed me with their perfect recommendations to my father when he and I first went in to get his first adaptive equipment about 10 years ago, one of those 'benchmarks' that is hard.  And he handled it so beautifully I just hope I remember it when I need some.  Oh, yeah, I needed a shower chair 4 years ago for surgery!  Yeah, I handled it like an adult I think.  Hope you and your family does as well!  ~~ Mardy
