Conflicting Times Have Their Advantages
As I write this, it's the Thursday before the first holiday weekend of 2021 -- Martin Luther King, Jr.'s holiday was one that came about in my lifetime. At first it was so strange to have a holiday in January, and then I got used to it. I'm sure the things that are occurring right now, overall, with the new era we are entering, will eventually feel less strange, but right now they have me feeling uneasy.
I'd experience the turbulence of the 1960s from an unusual place, perhaps -- as shown in the above photo.
President Kennedy was killed a while before this photo was taken. My family lived in a narrow canyon outside Denver, and The Denver Post would arrive late, and be eagerly anticipated that day. My mother would read parts of the story she read out loud, and as I watched her finger skimming down the printed words, I knew she was censoring what I heard.
I didn't like it then, and I don't like censorship now! So what I did then was ask to learn to read. I was three years and seven months of age, and was reading by the time I went to kindergarten then didn't understand why I had to be there when they were merely learning the alphabet. I'd choke in third grade when we had to go in front of the class and say how Dr. King's death affected us. I didn't know who he was, I thought he was "a king" and was corrected by the teacher and never wanted to talk in front of the class again -- unprepared at least.
It was a terribly unsettling time for people, and like today, the world's civilized people watched what the US was doing and were involved with opinions, at least. As the Vietnam war went into the 1970s, our society became divisive as it has been again recently -- I remember learning along the way that whenever a group differs in opinion, it gets the most heated when it is 50/50.
I'm motivated today by hope for how we'll change for the better, once again, as we go into the next era. I've heard it said this current shift is a much more major one, similar to our going from the hunter gatherer era to the agricultural era, or the industrial era, which we are emerging from having all the advanced technologist, much of it secret and in a secret space program we have a new "space force" cover program emerging to administer outwardly to the mainstream public.
Decide if you're in this "game" at all, and if you are, how are you playing it? What's your strategy?
For me personally, and for Lumigrate as the entity I established and have nurtured for about 13 years now, I'm seeing and appreciating the general public, today, "catching up" to where those of us who were called "visionaries", "leading edge", or "wierd", etc., in the past. People who had known me "forever" had to adapt as I went from atheist to believing in things beyond our knowledge being intimately involved in the way our lives play out, individually and collectively. I went from being a research program assistant / liaison "minion" to having a University degree, and "bona fide" credentials from the mainstream medical association. "I liked you better before you got so smart" one of them who had known me life-long said.
I was a mainstream OTR from 1997 and didn't diverge from that path until 2008, leaping on Leap Day that year to "functional medicine" and bringing Lumigrate to people from that model of medicine. I'd then add other models, have a focus in 2012 on water and fluoridation by municipalities (photo below), which brought me to the table, literally and figuratively, with rabel rousers (in a good way) who were in the "Patriot" realm.
I'd needed to take the journeys I did, it rounded out my knowledge and experience and furthered my understanding of the "different sides". At this time, I was two years into being nudged by a German MD who wanted to teach me about his methods within the German auricular medicine model, and I finally got to doing just that in 2017. I realize today I was thinking I was to "root causes" before, and was in the layers out from the root, if using the "onion analogy".
I'd not forseen anything like social media being the mainstay of how my fledgling website's existence would reach seekers, but along came Facebook just as Lumigrate was ready to "go live", and I was motivated to use it because I sincerely felt, as I still do, a role of mine is to help others find what helps in an affordable way in terms of money as well as time and energy. I'd certainly not forseen being mentored by a Facebook friend who was a guru of an energy medicine model that would literally stop the progression of my symptoms in their tracks -- at age 57 -- and even, for a while, reverse symptoms. (I could run again, for instance.)
Today, early 2021, thanks to so many getting onto Facebook over the last dozen-plus years, then Twitter's popularity next, most people are "aware and concerned" about social media businesses / platforms and the powers they have to censor people.
Thanks also to the exiting President of the United States, who famously was a loose cannon with his Twitter account -- until Twitter suspended the account. It was unpresidented. But was/is this all "orchestrated", even moreso than people who look for the signs of collaborations and conspiring suspected? I'm starting to think maybe so. My interest in Donald Trump as a candidate for 2016, and in his presidency these four years, has been largely due to not being able to get a clear read on who was really, secretly, in cahoots with him. I could see that mainstream entertainment / media built his popularity by having him become well known on a reality show, so it made sense to me he wasn't REALLY a renegade from The System. And so, I stay tuned and look forward to seeing what unfolds.
In a nutshell, I'm seeing there being a much bigger, more united group ultimately in control and gaining more all the time, and for me personally, I'm going to take a bit of a different path around the rapids, maybe thinking of it as going with the flow, keeping it on the down low, and not out there combating the challenging part of the river.
Because I felt Lumigrate was needed and "meant to be", I immersed myself into Facebook connections for many, many years, and it has continued to meet my needs. I've seen many set up accounts on other platforms, but you basically lose a lot of connection when you do that. I've opted to stay on Facebook, just changing how I do things -- same as I'm sticking with Lumigrate all these years (until the end, I suspect) and changing how I do things here.
Where do we go from here? I've spent a lot of time in late 2020 and early this month listening or reading from content providers I think are wise, cutting edge, and non-affiliated with any strings attached, thus uncensored. Richard Dolan. Dark Journalist. Kathryn Austin Fitts. Joseph P. Ferrell. Linda Moulton Howe.
Mr. Dolan's motto, in his gentle, "Mr Rogers-like" tone, is "....where every week, here, we fight the good fight" (his niche is truth about UFOs, etc.), and when he basically said he's not going to include certain words and his thoughts about the biggest topic out there right now (Covid and the vaccine) because he "wants to keep his YouTube Channel as long as possible", it resonated with me.
He was, coincidentally, focusing on Covid as his mother had died recently, same age as the client I caught Covid from, who died just one day before his mother. I was re-minded why I do what I do, why I have left mainstream as I have, and why I "fight the good fight", in a different but interconnected niche as Richard Dolan. We seek truth being told to the people. If the authorities won't do it, we were. Will we going forward?
This is a profoundly significant reality, and to not be able to feel free to express your thoughts about it on your own channel (on someone else's platform), is concerning to me on one hand and understandable to me on the other. I've hosted experts on Lumigrate and I want the content to be within certain parameters. That's my perogative on my platform. Quite a quandry!
What do we do from here? I say that we need ALL KINDS -- we need people who are more bold, taking more risk, up for the "fight" and consequences. We need people who are going to lay lower, and be more subtle, too. For me, I'm looking at it like my motorcycling years in my mid 20s to early 30s, as a passenger with a very experienced driver on a very well maintained machine; I took the risks for many years and got away with it unscathed, but it was time to change, and I got into Rollerblading for the rest of my 30s. Then I gave that up before I got hurt and bought a really good pair of hiking boots.
I was still out there, just going more carefully. Seeing things up closer with the slower speed. I'd gotten underway with a long hike goal I'd blogged about in the fall, but never got to do it -- I was asked to adopt a client's old, lame dog about the time I was going to do the hike (weather and time permitting), and the next day I had my first Covid symptoms begin. I'll perhaps hike to that Independence Monument base in the spring, but for now, I'm not pushing ANYTHING.
I realized as I walked "Tres" (Spanish for 3, as he is my 3rd dog) today, who is a 12 year old yellow lab with a gorgeous white face that is very deer-like, somehow, that I'm getting inspiration from him. In just four weeks together, most of which I was very ill with Covid or slowly recovering, he's learned how to act in my suburban neighborhood, and is giving up his "I'm a farm dog and am supposed to hackle up my back hairs and bark loudly at anything that moves until someone comes out of the house to see what I've "noticed". He had a big, big change, late in life, and he's doing fine. So can I! So can YOU!
I remember sitting in my treatment room just over 14 years ago, and thinking "I don't want to do this website, but doing the website is going to lead to what I DO want to do." I did my due diligence, and I hope Lumigrate is flexible enough to follow my change in direction. I hope you are as well. (My treatment room was to the left, I'm on the right, this turned out to be the last day I worked as an OTR, February 2008. COTA Del and OTAStudent Lisa's last day).
Thank you for being here. Of course, your copying and sharing links or otherwise telling others is how we grow, and how you can help others, too. Along the way if someone feels compelled to support my work by making a purchase from vendors on the Products page, having a 1 on 1 session with me by phone, etc., or gifting funds, it allows me to do a bit less at my local, in-person work, assisting in homes and do a bit more here at Lumigrate -- for all to see. And hopefully, benefit from -- sooner or later!
Grate-Fully, Mardy
Live and Learn. Learn and Live Better! is my motto. I'm Mardy Ross, and I founded Lumigrate in 2008 after a career as an occupational therapist with a background in health education and environmental research program administration. Today I function as the desk clerk for short questions people have, as well as 'concierge' services offered for those who want a thorough exploration of their health history and direction to resources likely to progress their health according to their goals. Contact Us comes to me, so please do if you have questions or comments. Lumigrate is "Lighting the Path to Health and Well-Being" for increasing numbers of people. Follow us on social networking sites such as: Twitter: http://twitter.com/lumigrate and Facebook. (There is my personal page and several Lumigrate pages. For those interested in "groovy" local education and networking for those uniquely talented LumiGRATE experts located in my own back yard, "LumiGRATE Groove of the Grand Valley" is a Facebook page to join. (Many who have joined are beyond our area but like to see the Groovy information! We not only have FUN, we are learning about other providers we can be referring patients to and 'wearing a groove' to each other's doors -- or websites/home offices!) By covering some of the things we do, including case examples, it reinforces the concepts at Lumigrate.com as well as making YOU feel that you're part of a community. Which you ARE at Lumigrate!
