Hello my dawlinks! No sooner do we unpack in our Florida townhouse, I have to pack again to go help another friend in need. I left my wonderful husband home this time, he should rest and be well from our long schlepp out of New York; I smooched him on the head and took my tuchus out the door to the waiting taxi to fly off to... to fly off to... Oy! Don't get old Liblings, you can't remember what you ate for breakfast let alone where you fly off to or who you helped! Far be for me to question G-d's plan but does it have to be made in such a way that I can't remember it?
So, no sooner do I get done there that another phone call comes and I'm off again, meshugedik (crazy), so instead of going home I'm off to some other person's house. This goes on for three weeks or so, enough to run me down and become a khoyle (a sick person), so home I finally go for my dawlink husband to take care but he has to shrayen (shout) at me first. I have to say it Bubelehs, he's not wrong; but what am I going to do, stop helping? It brings me nochas (joy) to help others. Which brings me to our friend Ellen. Such a sweet girl and good neighbor, you should only know.
While I was off fluttering about as Moisha says, Ellen was taking care of him. When I got back Ellen's townhouse was in a shambles. Oy, the dust, the holes, the peeled off paint, no appliances, no kitchen to speak of and no bathroom! What's a woman to do if you can't do laundry? So I said, "Ellen, dawlink, did you forget to pay something? Do you have a bookie and lost on the ponies? Are you doing drugs that I should know about?" And all she did was smile and say "we're being renovated. Actually, I'm being renovated too."
My dawlinks, Ellen's kitchen was completely torn out as was her 1/2 bath/laundry room. As for her personal renovation, no she's not having "work" done physically but her medications are changing again. It seems there's a nu (new) thinking in fibromyalgia. Time for the head spin and pea soup spit. Go ahead, I'll wait.... For you kinderleh, that's a reference to a Linda Blair movie called The Exorcist; very popular in the 1970's, you should see it if you like horror films. Personally, all I can think about is the mess the Mema (mother) has to clean up every time the child spews pea soup.
I went to see my doctor, good man this doctor and we were kibbitzing as always, his mother is fine in case you wanted to know, he just spoke with her in the morning; and he said fibromyalgia goes back many years but didn't come into it's own until recently. Wait! Let's do that again, see if you can follow me on this one. DIDN'T COME INTO IT'S OWN. So what, it went to college, got a degree, a job and now it's all grown up? A misstatement perhaps? A shande (shame) I should think. Here's the scoop, bubelehs:
Back in the day, say around 1904 it was once called Fibrositis by a Dr. Gowers (I found that by using Google thanks to Rubin, Ellen's son, such a mensch). Before that it was simply termed as Rheumatism or muscular rheumatism and wasn't until 1976 (the disco era that we will NOT talk about) that someone called it 'fibromyalgia' but just to confuse everyone someone named Smythe "laid the foundation for FMS in 1972 by describing widespread pain and tender points." Don't question me, I'm on a roll.
The first sleep study was in 1975. Then people sat on their hands until 1981 when the first controlled study with validation was done with known symptoms and tender points and was published! Who knew? Actually, we do now. And it was this study that gave the first proposed criteria. Wait, there's more! I feel like one of those informercials....
In 1984 the concept of FMS and other similar conditions are interconnected and introduced, and the first American College of Rheumatology criteria is published in 1990. The same decade, neurohormonal mechanisms with central sensitization were developed. Somewhere around 1986 however, Serotonergic/norepinephric drugs were found to be effective in some cases. Yenta, I really appreciate your 'sniffing this out', as I believe it will help people understand the past, which then helps to understand the present, allowing us each to be the most effective in the future moments. This might be interesting to medical providers, so I encourage people to cut and paste and email it, or print and take it along and say 'this might be interesting to you, and it's a FUN read', because medical providers are typically pretty worn down from all the thinking and processing, I've found.
I'm glad you had a good kibbitz with your doctor, Yenta, and that his mother is doing well -- I recall you mentioned him in one of your first pieces maybe about a year ago or so! And I'm sorry you have to pack up and be off again, and I hope you -- like everyone -- takes good care to monitor and think about the long game when it comes to activities. Everyone is their own best guide related to that, I believe, once the person knows how to tap into that wise guide inside of themselves. At least you have a good neighbor and hopefully she'll make you some Peace Soup in her new kitchen someday very soon. This is just a start. Thank you for putting this idea in front of me bubeleh. I've found this very interesting. I gave a light, over-all, quick nip history that goes back to "my" time. And on a different subject, I'm so happy you like your peace blanket. I'm making a football blanket for a young man in college as part of a care package that Ellen is sending. I volunteered to help her. We've found that friendship has actually lessened pained levels (this is a fact) and working together on projects is enjoyable plus we get to kibbitz about all sorts of things.
Peace soup? Not a bad idea, libling! A new project? Something for me to create? What a surprise! It couldn't hurt!

Yes, I LOVE the peace fleece blanket and have some plans for it to get out more, like it did to Ouray to the Ice Falls on New Years Day, and influence others. It's kinda like taking a beautiful and interesting dog with you -- it's an 'ambassador' to open up conversations, for sure! Ouray, Colorado, is one of Colorado's gem's related to history, and naturally, your piece about the Peace Sign is what got us going about history near the end of 2010.

Mardy dawlink, not for nothing, as my Tante (Aunt) Celia would say, but since our dogs are being fed "people" food more and more and getting diseases like us, and medicines like ours, I'm just wondering ... perhaps, should I ask Ellen's veterinarian if animals also get FMS? or maybe RA? I'll tell you why; of course I'll tell you why...
It seems Ellen had to "take a run" as she calls it, to her vet's office because Lucy's hip wasn't feeling so gut (good) with this colder weather, she should only know from cold weather. So the doctor, we'll call him Paul, said he has a sample of something chewable, Lucy will like it. We pick up a bottle of Deramaxx and they give a brochure of different therapies they do for animals with arthritic hips. Oy vey! They get better treatment then I do! It's a day at a spa, I'm telling you!
I've been told many times by Ellen that people are buying food at the market to cook up themselves for their dogs. Some don't even cook it, they just give it as is! They think their doing them a toyve (favor) by returning them to their "roots" of wild dogs. This bares kibbitzing.
So nu? What do you think bubeleh? Our dogs develop a lot of the same ailments and illnesses we do, they take many of the same drugs we do now, is it possible they could develop FMS or perhaps RA? Should I find out? We do have strong connections with our animals, no? It couldn't hurt!
