Love, Life and Brussel Sprouts

Hello my dawlinks! It's your Yenta. You were expecting the Queen of Denial, perhaps? In my travels, Liblings, I've seen and heard my share of those peoples that don't understand, can't comprehend, want to know why, and have yet to admit that they have a difficulty that needs to be cared for. Your Yenta has finally decided to mayrekn zayn (write exclusively) about it. So in this, I'll use very little Yiddish.

Here's your example: I've been marveling at couples who have divorced but don't hate one another. They've remained friends. There was hurt, anger, a little hostility but no hate. Farvos nisht (why not)? Because that is the true meaning of LOVE! What does that have to do with chronic pain, you may ask? Love does NOT lead to hate. Hate, as you hopefully know, is a poison for our bodies; the other feelings are natural and can be motivated to move along and leave; hate cannot.

Now, we often say, "I hate my pain" or "I hate my illness". How about "I hate brussel sprouts". In that case, you might mean you strongly dislike brussel sprouts, which I can understand, so try putting something on them like a healthy sauce of some kind perhaps. As for your illness and your pain, there's a reason you have it. Figure it out. Go with the idea that maybe, just maybe, you need to change something. Perhaps you need to learn something, or give, or believe, or... come on kindeleh, think! What is it your Yenta keeps telling you? We'll skip that until later.

So how do you change hate? Through positive reinforcement. Oy! And there it is, that hippie stuff. Yes, my dawlinks, your hippie bubie is telling you some hippie advice that really does work and not just in the hippie world. This is not "put on your psychodelic clothes, love beads, rose colored glasses and peace sign necklaces (although I know where to get those if you want)", this is the little changes needed to move forward in your lives for less pain and better living. For less negatives and more life. For better choices and more freedoms.

In past postings, we've covered bio-feedback, the window theory, philosophy, etc. Go back and read if you need to. Explore the other forums here at Lumigrate, the video on "lasting change" -- there is much here about psychology, the mind/body connection and spirituality with health. I started out posting in the spirituality forum but realized I wanted to write regularly and help those, like me, who have fibromyalgia and chronic illness.

Take in the lessons and apply them however you feel necessary; pick and choose what fits you, and start on your journey to more positive living. No one said you have to love yourself right now, let's start with "like" and go from there. Pick something that you think is good about yourself. Most people go for a physical attribute but let's try something else, how about a part of your personality. When you find it, name it out loud and do it every day. It couldn't hurt!

You Are What You Eat and More

Good post from Yenta. The main comment I have is Love yourself, change what you don't like that you can change and accept what you cannot change.

It is said you are what you eat, but you also are what you see, hear, and think. Think positive thoughts, read good books, watch inspiring television (yes there is some of that left), associate with people who uplift you and make you feel good while always nurturing that good spirit within you.

Shanah dank (Thank you). I couldn't agree more, dawlink. We are more than just intake of esn (food); we are who we create ourselves to be.

Liblings, the child that sees the world for the first time sees the wonder in it, not the grime, the polution, the muck but the beauty and creative, positive power it pocesses. Seeing an airplane in flight that child does not cringe in fear but looks up and says, "WEEEEE" with a giggle. And the first time that same child falls, they don't know to cry until an adult responds with alarm. It's what we're taught.

Yes Alice, a good book is always welcomed, surround oneself with like minded, positive living people is what's desired, however, do remember one important factor: Positive living is contagious. Spread it around; It couldn't hurt!

Our Yenta is a Mind Reader...

Last night I went to bed with my iPad and was wanting to read more from Dr Hellerstein's website related to brain injury content which I'd just discovered after I followed a link on her Facebook about NEW videos of her speaking (she's like a cross between vision specialist, Bette Midler and Christian Northrup, MD/women's health expert if you ask me. It's VERY well done.)

I ended up watching the video again and I hadn't realized it had messed up the previous night when I watched it and not gone to different segments, I'd just gotten the first segment. AHA! Her book's title is See it. Say it. Do it! and is geared for teachers, parents and kids to see the cover and reach for it and read it, so it's a FUN book to read for adults! Adult words are 'visualize' ... 'perform'.

So imagine my pleasant surprise when I wake up and come to my computer and see that Yenta has posted something new! That's always awesome! And then was I surprised when her lesson facilitates something that we're currently working on at Lumigrate? Not anymore -- I just remark about how amazing it is that we don't even have to talk to each other and are so in the same GRATE Groove!

Here's the link, and I'll let Dr Hellerstein and Beth Fishman, OTR, COVTT/vision therapy program leader know of this post as well. I noticed last night when looking at her website postings about brain injury, that they were posted at the same time I was on the Front Range thinking "if the snowstorms and time allows, I'm going to call Lynn Hellerstein and see if we can work in a meeting." Which we did. And what did I want to talk with her about specifically? So I'd recommend either immediately or at the end of the fun story about her reading disability as a child (which I would imagine helped share what she has done for higher education and her vocation), click on "Home" and then the 12:22 should come up. At least that's how it worked for me.>
